Frequently Asked Questions

LIQUID

Shake well? How well?!

10 seconds, before your session, upside down (the bottle, not you, although....**).

Why does it need shaking?

We've avoided adding detrimental thickeners and resins to Gekco, these slow down separation but are bloody awful for climbing and the rock! So you'll find between sessions your liquid chalk can separate a little bit. THIS IS NORMAL. It's a sign of it's simplistic and pure composition. A quick warm-up shake before your session is a price worth paying for performance and helping the environment in our eyes. We hope you feel the same!

How do I refill my bottle?

Simply drop your empty bottle off at your local stockist (ideally rinsed out) and we'll take care of the rest! We then collect empties, refill them at HQ and redistribute them across our stockist network!

My bottle looks sad, it's been through the wars... what shall I do with it?

You've reused, therefore you've reduced, now it's time to RECYCLE! Give your bottle a rinse out with water to clean it then pop it into your kerbside plastic recycling.

My lid has given up, but my bottle is still going strong! Help!

Most of our stockists carry spares, simply ask at reception and they'll happily hand you a replacement or drop us a message and we'll post you one out! RECYCLE the one you remove with your kerbside plastic.

Loose

I think I might prefer chunky, do you have that option?

We made a bold decision after A LOT of testing and research to not launch a chunky chalk for two very important reasons; Performance and the environment. Firstly our chalk is engineered to be a high performance product and the particle size is key in achieving this. Scientifically chunky just does not perform as well. Secondly making chunky chalk requires more than twice to energy to produce versus loose, that's a hefty carbon footprint to pay just for a change in texture and goes against our values of creating products which are better for the climber and the environment. It's all about how you use our loose, check this out below!

How do I get the best out of my loose chalk?

The key to achieving the best coating is pressure. This is why our chalk balls are so good but actually for boulder buckets a simple piece of flannel will work wonders. Often climbers think more chalk = more grip but it's quite the opposite, too much and it becomes slippy. When you chalk up with a piece of material in there, you're pushing the chalk deep into the ridges of your skin and we find it lasts longer and delivers noticeably more friction.

How do I dispose of the bag?

Our bags are super special. They're paper recyclable so you can just pop them in your household paper recycling, but they're also home compostable, so if you want to feed your worms you can!

Balls

How do I refill my ball?

The job is made easier with a large funnel, as long as the opening is 1inch or larger you're sorted. Carefully slide the toggle back and wiggle open the opening. Grab a spoon and fill the ball with loose squeezing the bag inwards and down slightly once it begins to fill, this compresses the chalk and allows you to fit more in the balls! Finally slide the material back down so it synchs up and closes the opening, slide the toggle down and you're good to go! (our balls were designed alongside our loose, we cannot guarantee they will function as well if you're using other chalk!)
