GEKCO Liquid Chalk 250ml - The Choice for Performance & Environment

The magnesium carbonate (chalk) that we use is extracted from sea water, which not only is much more sustainable but also provides a much higher purity product than mined chalk. Magnesium carbonate is a really good drying agent and when there aren’t any other contaminants present it provides naturally superior grip.

Other brands have a much higher water content which is understandably detrimental to drying time. You’ll find GEKCO dries in as little as a few seconds. Less time waiting, more time climbing.

Most brands use isopropyl alcohol (IPA/isopropanol) which is quite harsh on the skin, can cause cracking and exacerbate skin problems. GEKCO Liquid Chalk is made with high grade ethanol which is generally much more easy going on the skin.

We actually have many happy customers who struggle with Eczema etc. and prior to finding GEKCO could not use any liquid chalk due to the harsh effects of IPA and the other ingredients many brands add. As always, we care about your skin as much as you do so please test appropriately if you’re unsure.

Resin or rosin as it’s sometimes listed is used to help chalk stay dispersed in the alcohol as chalk likes to clump together. This is the cheap and easy way of making liquid chalk. We figured out a way of keeping the chalk dispersed in the alcohol without the need of any other ingredients. Resin is detrimental to your skin (like washing paint off your hands), the environment, climbing holds and rock, and your climbing overall.

A lot of cheaper liquid chalks add strong thickening agents to their chalk which make it seem like there is more ‘chalk’ per application.

Sadly these are all detrimental to friction and simply mean you’re getting less for your money. GEKCO Liquid Chalk actually has the most magnesium carbonate (chalk) per ml of all liquid chalks.

We fill every bottle with as much magnesium carbonate as is physically possible and you can feel this when you get that perfect first application. Just remember to shake your bottle before use!

Good habits. We all wish we had them, with liquid chalk they’re crucial for extending your bottles lifespan.

Your liquid chalk can dry out if the cap is left even partially open and not fully closed. After every use, make sure the lid is shut properly. Sometimes chalk can build up around the cap preventing proper closure but this can easily be brushed off and used.

Additionally, make sure to really shake your bottle between sessions! If your liquid chalk appears thinner than usual it usually means it needs shaking. You may be pouring out more alcohol than chalk, the alcohol is crucial for keeping the chalk, liquid.

GEKCO Liquid Chalk is made up of two components; magnesium carbonate and alcohol.

One is a solid and one is liquid. The two don’t usually mix that well! So to ensure the two stay suspended you should shake your bottle well before sessions.

Temporary settling can occur so shaking makes sure you get consistent applications and that your liquid chalk remains, liquid.

Most of our stockists participate in our bottle return scheme, once you’re finished with your liquid chalk you can hand it back to a participating wall and ask for it to be put into the GEKCO bottle return scheme.

The reason we only make one size of liquid is that a 250ml bottle enables us to provide our product to you at the cheapest we can offer it. With smaller bottles you’re paying for more of the plastic than the chalk and ultimately it creates a lot of plastic waste for such a small volume of chalk. Smaller bottles don’t work well for return schemes either so they’re often just binned and rarely get recycled.

Surprisingly you’ll find our liquid is often cheaper per ml than many of the liquid chalks out there anyway.

So you get way more for your money and we can avoid unnecessary plastic waste.
